The Canadian Shield pictured here is highlighted in red. It is a large, horseshoe-shaped area of land wrapped around the Hudson Bay. It is 1,850,000 square miles (4,790,000 square km), according to Compton's Britannica for Kids. The Canadian Shield has 50 ecoregions, which means it is home to a large variety of animals and plant species.
