ACID RAIN

Acid rain is formed from burning fossil fuels such as oil, gas and coal. When these fuels are burned, they produce gases which mix with the air. Rain is then formed with these acidic components. "Acid rain damages trees and harms rivers, lakes, and the stone used in buildings" (Exploring Our World, p. 171). In some regions, people in Canada are working to reduce the amount of acidic chemicals that are released from factory smoke stacks. They have also started using cleaner energy sources such as nuclear power plants.
